Kicking Off the Summer of SUP in Toronto with Courtney Bruce
Summer is almost here and being a teacher that means that school will be out soon and I will be on the water. This is my third summer paddle boarding and being on the water is without a doubt my happy place. I love the minimalism of paddle boarding. All you need is a board, a paddle and a little bit of water. I also love how interconnected my yoga practice and paddle boarding have become since becoming a certified SUP Yoga instructor (March 2015) and extending my practice to the water.
I am stoked this summer to be representing LXV Outdoor and sharing their amazing Tahoe SUP and KM Hawaii with everybody in Toronto!
My favorite boards so far are the Tahoe SUP Bliss, KM Hawaii Compressor race board and the YoFit inflatable. Bliss is described as perfect happiness and this board delivers that on the water! If you have never ridden a Bliss you must add this to your summer to do list for recreational or fitness paddling. Very stable and delivers an efficient glide for touring around the lake.
Last weekend I had the opportunity to practice yoga on the Tahoe 11’ Yofit inflatable and it feels like home. This board is so easy to transport and set up and the full-length yoga deck pad is smooth, comfortable and perfect for SUP Yoga. With the Lake Ontario water temperatures around 16 C there weren’t many people in the water yet but I had a chance to re-connect with some SUP friends and made new friends who are excited to try this incredible sport.
Friday and Saturday paddling was wonderful, however on Sunday (which was my birthday) mother nature had the audacity to rain out my beach birthday party in the afternoon. Taking the BBQ indoors was a great backup plan but as soon as the sun came out again we were back at the lake for a late day paddle. While on the lake we were greeted by a light sun/rain shower and a beautiful rainbow!
Until next time,
