STAYING ON BOARD YEAR ROUND
SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE AND IT’S A GOOD TIME TO CHECK IN WITH ONE OF OUR PADDLE AMBASSADORS FROM ONTARIO, CANADA ABOUT HOW SHE TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE COLD AND SNOW. SOUNDS LIKE COURTNEY BRUCE HAS EVERY SEASON COVERED!
Canada is a beautiful country a wide range of temperatures and seasons across the country. Finding good conditions to paddle board during Winter and early Spring can sometimes be a challenge! The winters can be quite long and the spring and fall quite rainy. So it’s all about diversity during the off season for SUP.
Yoga is a huge part of my life both on and off the water! During the school year I run a yoga club at the school where I teach both staff and students. Mindfulness and meditation are very important for students, especially in my technology driven school. Time away from the computer is so helpful to many students and teaching them how to centre their thoughts allows them to de-stress and refocus.
During the winter it’s all about snowboarding! I coach the ski and snowboard race team at my school and spend lots of time on the hills! It is quite a logical transition from paddleboarding to snowboarding. Although the motion can be quite different, the importance of staying balanced is the same. When you snowboard, the position of your body is so important to carving down the hill. This is also important when gliding along the water on your paddle board.
TAHOE SUP DOWNUNDER
Besides snowboarding, in the off season I am also a PADI certified open water diver. I have been diving for a couple years. I began my certification in Mexico and this past Christmas completed my open water certification in Cairns, Australia. Diving the Great Barrier Reef was one of the most incredible experiences I have had. To be able to take in the beauty of the open water was unreal. Living on a boat for 3 days and completing a total of 15 dives in that time is something I would do again in a heartbeat!
While in Australia, I had the opportunity to paddle board the inland waterways at Surfers Paradise. Although I wasn’t able to bring my Tahoe Yofit with me, I was happy to be out of the water! And as luck would have it, while paddling up this little river, I looked over to the shore and to my surprise spotted a classic Tahoe SUP Zephyr! What are the chances! It was locked to a tree!
As the days begin to warm up, I can’t wait for summer so I can get back out on the water.
